Next Kid Icarus game may launch in 25 years

Despite some weird control quirks, plenty of gamers have had some good things to say about Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS. If you played and enjoyed developer Project Sora's handheld adventure, then you may want to soak it in and enjoy the experience thoroughly, because it looks like we won't see the Kid Icarus series in a good while.

In a statement to IGN, series designer and creator of Smash Bros. and Kirby (yes!) Masahiro Sakurai said that he probably won't be returning to the world of Kid Icarus. In fact, the designer went on to say that we probably won't see a new Kid Icarus game for another 25 years! Dude, I'll be, like, 50 years old by then!

"If by ‘lasting universe’ you mean to ask if there's a sequel, the answer is no," said Sakurai. He continued: "because we pushed a lot into the game in order to let people have this short yet deep experience, but the novelty of that would likely grow thin in the next game. For now, my thought is that perhaps we'll see someone else besides me make another Kid Icarus in another 25 years."

It's crazy to learn that Sakurai may not work on a new Kid Icarus game and instead wants someone else to take the helm. Even crazier is that lengthy period of time he expects us to wait. With the exception of Smash Bros., we hardly ever see any semblance of the Kid Icarus IP. In all honesty, I think Nintendo should wait to launch the next game in the series, but I think 25 years is pushing it.
