NHL 14 brings back old-school hockey action with NHL ’94 Anniversary Mode

Two things were better in the 90s: hockey and video games. There's no arguing that. Even EA Sports recognizes this, and is looking to dip back into that old-school action with the inclusion of NHL '94 Anniversary Mode in this year's NHL 14 game.

The new mode is designed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of NHL '94, and will feature all the same rules and gameplay you remember. And the rules are there ain't no rules. No penalties, no offsides, no icings; just "big hits, real fights, dirty dangles, and sick snipes."

NHL '94 Anniversary Mode features classic button controls, retro presentation, classic star-shaped player indicators, no adboards, 16-bit arena powerbars, throwback organ music and, yes, blue freaking ice. I haven't been this excited for hockey since D2: The Mighty Ducks!

NHL 14 is due out on September 10 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
