During its Nintendo Direct broadcast last night, NIntendo revealed a new version of the 3DS featuring larger screens and a better battery life.
The new 3DS XL will be released on August 19th in America, coinciding with the launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2.
With an updated form factor and screens that are 90% larger than the original 3DS, your handheld gaming experiences will be "more intense and more engrossing than ever before," according to Nintnedo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.
The system's top screen is now 4.88 inches, while the lower screen measures at 4.18 inches. Reggie didn't give an exact battery life, but did say that it outperforms the original 3DS which lasted anywhere from 3 to 4.5 hours. It also comes bundled with a 4GB SD card making it "perfect for downloading content".
The 3DS XL will launch in North America (Aug. 19) for $199.99 in either red or blue color. It will release on July 28th in Europe with an optional third color, silver.
"Nintendo 3DS XL lets you get the most out of everything the Nintendo 3DS was made to do. The launch of Nintendo 3DS XL and New Super Mario Brothers 2 marks the beginning of a huge push for Nintendo 3DS that will last for the rest of the year and beyondl," said Reggie.
