Nintendo has released a statement rebuking the report for Japanese newpaper Nikkei that had suggested that the game company was ending production on the Wii U. Although Nintendo did not release a formal statement, they did state that they plan on continuing production for the Wii U in the next fiscal year (and possibly later).
The next fiscal year in Japan bleeds into early 2017, beginning on April 1, 2016 and ending on March 31, 2017. While Nintendo maintains that the production will continue for the Wii U, the dates essentially only cover the holiday season.
Currently, the Wii U is facing shortages in Japan which has propelled rumors suggesting that Nintendo has already pulled back on production for the Wii U. Currently, Nintendo is working on a new home console, codenamed the Nintendo NX. Pictures for the NX controller have allegedly been leaked, however the validity of these photos remains unchecked. We will only know if these photos show the developer kit or a fake when the console is officially revealed.
