When NPD Group, tomorrow, releases March's sales data for the U.S. gaming industry, expect to see the life-to-date 3DS game sales surpass 20 million in the U.S. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed the milestone when speaking to Games Industry International.
"When the NPD numbers come out later this week, you're going to see life-to-date 3DS game sales surpass 20 million units in the US," he said. "And that's just physical. It doesn't include digital sales."
3DS game sales in 2013, through April 15, are "up 55% versus last year," according to Reggie. That's counting both physical and digital. Nintendo's transition to digital retail is also proving successful as customers have downloaded "more than 41 million items from the eShop – everything form full games to applications like Nintendo video, DLC, demos, free items, and more," he concluded.
Elsewhere in the interview, it was revealed that Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon has sold 415,000 copies in the U.S, while Fire Emblem: Awakening has sold 240,000. All of these numbers will be reflected in the NPD Group's report tomorrow.
