In November, we learned that Nintendo was looking to make a Super Mario movie in collaboration with Illumination Entertainment. The details were never confirmed, and there was a fair amount of radio silence after the first mention of it
But apparently, this is still being discussed, according to an interview in Kyoto Shimbun with Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima. He says that he hopes to come to an agreement to a partnership for a Super Mario movie. If the agreement happens, he stated that the announcement could soon follow. If the agreement runs smoothly, Kimishima says the movie could release by 2020.
This is all hopeful talk but unlike the previous attempt at a Super Mario movie in the early 90s, this project will have Nintendo heavily involved. It would also be animated and not live-action.
If rumors hold true, Shigeru Miyamoto would also be involved in the creative process of the film. When more news is released on the results of the meeting between the video game company and the movie studio, keep it tuned to GameZone for the latest updates.
