The Nintendo Switch is one of the fastest-selling video game systems in the United States and it’s officially hit a new milestone. The Nintendo Switch has eclipsed the Wii U in sales.
The Wii U sold 13.5 million units over five years and the Nintendo Switch has sold 14.86 million units in just nine months. With the Nintendo Switch seeing such high sales, it’s no surprise that its games are seeing incredible sales as well.
According to Nintendo, Super Mario Odyssey sold 9.07 million copies since its October launch – which is more than some major franchises managed to sell in 2017. Following Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold 7.33 million copies, and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild sold 6.7 million.
Splatoon 2, 1-2 Switch, Arms, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 trailed behind with 4.91 million, 1.88 million, 1.61 million and 1.06 million, respectively. Nintendo’s upcoming slate of games, including Bayonetta, Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon, Kirby, and a new Fire Emblem will only help propel the Nintendo Switch into further success.
Outside of first-party games, Stardew Valley was the most-downloaded game for the Nintendo Switch in 2017 0 in the United States.
With further success, it’s likely that more third-party developers will begin supporting the device with ports and games.
