Nintendo Wants EVERYONE to Have a Switch, Not Just Every Household

Uncle Shiggy (Shigeru Miyamoto) wants everyone to have a Nintendo Switch because it will allow for more ways to play.

Nintendo’s success with the Switch has been nothing shy of remarkable. But the Japanese company isn’t done growing their aspirations for the console, stating that they plan on showing that “every single person” should buy the console, not just every household.

This statement came from a recent investor Q&A where Shigeru Miyamoto talked about the company’s plans to help reach even more people with the console.

“The marketing strategy going forward is to instill a desire to purchase Nintendo Switch among a wide consumer base in all regions of Japan, the US, and Europe. Our ultimate ambition is for a Nintendo Switch to be owned not just by every family, but by every single person.”

The reasoning behind this concept is pretty sound. What makes the console so appealing is the hybrid nature. Fans can play on a TV like a traditional console; appealing to the couch co-op fans, but it can also be taken on the go. While this same co-op is capable while not docked, the appeal of having your own dedicated handheld isn’t overshadowed.

“If consumers come to take it for granted that everybody has a Nintendo Switch, then we can create new and very Nintendo genres of play, and Nintendo Switch can have a life apart from smart devices and other video game systems.”

It’s already a great platform for players who like options. It seems these options could widen as the console gains even more popularity. With the Nintendo Switch Online Service being teased as “worth the wait”, it will be interesting to see how the company appeases the online community of gamers when it launches later this year.
