At some point today, Nintendo will cut off online functionality offered through Nintendo WiFi Connection for the Wii, DS, and DSi. Though you'll still be able to play games in offline mode, services like online play, matchmaking and leaderboards for many of these systems' games end. Below is the full list of games affected by today's news:
Nintendo DS
Nintendo DSiWare
Wii
WiiWare
Nintendo notes that online play for Wii U and 3DS is unaffected by this change, aside from the Wii mode on Wii U and Nintendo DS games on the 3DS family. Other online services, like the Wii Shop Channel, the Nintendo DSi Shop, and video-on-demand are also not affected at this time.
"We at Nintendo sincerely thank our fans for their continued support of our company’s legacy systems," Nintendo said in a statement. "Your enthusiasm for games made for these systems speaks to their longevity and the passion of Nintendo fans."
