Over the summer we got a huge tease from Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot, who stated that Beyond Good and Evil's developer Michel Ancel was working on a secret project, "I can't say the name, but there is a team working with Michel Ancel on a project that is… very interesting."
It was heavily rumored that the mystery project was a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil, as Guillemot's response had come after being questioned on the game; but, we haven't heard anything about it since… Until now.
Michel Ancel sat down with DoubleFine's Tim Schafer and Greg Rice to play through the beginning sequence of Beyond Good and Evil. Of course, Beyond Good and Evil 2 was brought up.
Tim Schafer dropped the big bad question on Ancel, asking to hear "everything about Beyond Good and Evil 2."
Ancel, who had probably guessed the question, was coming responded with a laugh and suggested that they continue speaking about Beyond Good and Evil 1. Schafer didn't switch subjects and prodded Ancel some more "It's going to be great though; it's going to be amazing. Good enough for Miyamoto?"
The developer didn't offer much and simply responded with a note on how difficult it is to develop a game that people have such high expectations for. "That's the problem — it has to be great. When we started that game [BG&E] there wasn't much pressure… No other games I've made have the same aura," Ancel stated.
The conversation turned at that point, but after the credits of the video Ancel revealed that he was still hard at work on the sequel, despite how hard it is to find time.
"You're still in this headspace because you're making the sequel though, right?" Schafer asked. "Yeah, but it's difficult because it's hard for me to do the same kind of game two times. I don't know how you manage that with Psychonauts 2," responded Ancel.
