No, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Jumanji isn’t a reboot it’s a “continuation”

I respect that.

The new Jumanji movie was revealed three years ago and since then, not too much has been revealed for the film. What we do  know about the film, has come from none other than the man starring in the film: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

During the initial reveal for the film, Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad called the upcoming Jumanji a reimagination of the iconic film. It appears, however, that Jumanji will not be a reimagining or a reboot or even a remake – it will be a continuation.

Taking to an Instagram post, Johnson revealed that Fast and Furious 8 has wrapped up filming and thanked everyone involved in the project. Nestled in the end of the post, Johnson spoke on his next project, Jumanji:

"And now in two weeks I'll reunite with ol' friends Kevin Hart & Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of#JUMANJI. *(for the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story). It's also crazy to me how much me, Kev and Jack look like triplets when we're together."

Johnson specifically notes that Jumanji is a continuation, not a reboot as some people (like myself) believed.

In an industry filled with reboots, it's  great to see one movie that is at least working off of the story that was set in motion… Instead of erasing it for their own cast.

Jumanji is set to release in theaters on July 28, 2017.
