Earlier today Hello Games tweeted that No Man's Sky was a "mistake." Judging by the months of silence from the developers prior to that tweet, it was probably a hack. New information has come to light and it's all pretty conflicting, but one thing is clear. It was more than likely a hack – how deep the hack goes we don't know.
Sean Murray has broken his silence, after not speaking publicly since August, to say that Hello Games had been hacked in the following tweet.
Murray went on address the hacked tweet that called No Man's Sky a "mistake."
Prior to breaking his silence, press outlets that had emailed the studio were receiving conflicting reports on who hacked the Hello Games account. Turns out, it was probably the hacker responding to the press (seriously, if someone posts a tweet from LinkedIn, you have to assume they have control of the person's email).
“The tweet is from me, but somebody from the team took it down,” wrote the hacker to Polygon. “We have not been coping well."
Another email, to Mashable claimed the tweet came from an employee of Hello Games.
"The tweet came from a disgruntled employee," wrote maybe Sean Murray/hacker in an email. "We're currently trying to solve the issue internally."
It's currently not confirmed on which reports are true and which reports are false, but either way… it's a wild ride.
