No season pass planned for future Borderlands 2 DLC

Gearbox won't be offering players a second season pass for the upcoming batch of Borderlands 2 DLC. The studio confirmed a full slate of upcoming content which includes a level cap increase, new missions, and uniquely themed boss fights, but if you want each one you'll have to buy them separately. Speaking to Polygon, the developer explained that gamers prefer the freedom of choice when purchasing content.

"In April we celebrated the success of Borderlands 2 by thanking our most passionate fans, the Season Pass holders, by including the first Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack in the Season Pass. We were excited to give Season Pass holders $45 of value instead of the original promise of $40.

"Through the course of our grand experiment, we've also learned that fans are happy with an a la carte menu for DLC because they can pick and choose the content that they most want to buy and really customize their Borderlands 2 experience.

"They're voting with their wallets — and we are grateful that there are enough of them asking that we can justify the cost of developing the content."

The original Borderlands 2 Season Pass included four add-on campaigns, ending with Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. Many thought this would be the end of the game's DLC, but last week the studio confirmed the future content, revealing the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge, an add-on that will increase the level cap while adding new high level enemies. Gearbox will also release multiple "Headhunter" packs offering new missions and uniquely themed boss fights.

It seems that if you want to play each one, though, you'll have to purchase them separately. Would you have liked to see Gearbox offer a Season Pass for the second round of content?
