Nolan North replaces Peter Dinklage as voice of Ghost in Destiny

Au revoir, Dinklebot. I guess that wizard didn't come from the moon.

Last Summer during June, Bungie held a First Look Alpha for Destiny and while it revealed many hype revving qualities it also revealed Peter Dinklage's "That Wizard came from The Moon" line. It became the line that defined the Alpha, not because it was downright awesome… but because it was as thrilling as listening to someone describe the different shades of color in a plush carpet for the four thousandth time.

Even though Bungie attempted to embrace the downright awfulness with t-shirt and updating the game's dialogue, but it wasn't enough. The entirety of Dinklage's dialogue in the game fell flat and because of this Peter Dinklage will no longer be the Dinklebot. Bungie hired veteran voice actor Nolan North (best known for Uncharted and Assassin's Creed) to re-record every bit of Ghost's dialogue in Destiny, from the base game and on.

Speaking with Game Informer, both Bungie and Nolan North spoke on the change, “We wanted Nolan North’s version of the Ghost to wake you up at the start of the journey at level one and follow you all the way to level forty,” says creative director Luke Smith. With this change, the Ghost’s script will remain the same, but Peter Dinklage’s voicing of those lines will not be present in the game.

“They really wanted me to put my stamp on it,” North says. “They let me bring what I wanted to the role. You have to give it your own spin. For that reason, I specifically said I didn’t want to hear anything that someone else had done, so that I didn’t have some preconceived notion of what it has to be. Instead, I just gave it my stamp, and let them direct me accordingly.”

Dinklage will thoroughly replace when Destiny: The Taken King releases on September 15th.
