Nvidia's Project Shield Android gaming handheld — capable of playing Android games and streamign Steam games — received a price drop today and is now $50 cheaper than the original $349 price that was announced back in May. It will now cost just $299, a new price that Nvidia says was a result of feedback from gamers.
"We’ve heard from thousands of gamers that if the price was $299, we’d have a home run," the company said in a blog post. "So we're changing the price of the SHIELD to $299." Those who have already pre-ordered Shield will only be charged the new, lower price when the the product ships.
"We want to get SHIELD into the hands of as many gamers as possible," the post concluded. "That’s because we think they’ll have the same reaction to it as thousands of gamers already have: joy."
In addition to the new price, Nvidia announced that the Shield will release on June 27, just a week from today. You can reserve your Nvidia Shield handheld today at the company website, but we're still awaiting a list of retailers that will carry the system.
