Obsidian Entertainment is teasing a new game titled ‘Project Louisiana’

Obsidian Entertainment is known for their work on sequels of established franchises that include Knights of the Old Republic and Fallout. They have developed quite a following as a result of this, so it should come as no surprise that when the studio teases or announces a new game, the internet has a tendency to blow up. The company has sent out two tweets over the last two days which appear to be teasers for an upcoming game they have in the pipeline called "Project Louisiana."

Here's the first tweet:

Naturally, the first assumption many fans have had is that "Louisiana" is a precursor to the long rumored Fallout: New Orleans. After all, there was a trademark filing with the European Union for the name, but nothing has come of it after Obsidian shot down the rumors. On top of that, the second of the two tweets appears to squash the Fallout: New Orleans theory and points to one of the company's own IPs, Pillars of Eternity.

Here is the second tweet:

The "Leaden Key" is a direct reference to an ancient and secret organization from Pillars of Eternity of the same name. According to the game's Wiki, the Leaden Key is an organization "dedicated to the goddess Woedica and the preservation of the secrets of the gods." Couple in the reference to "my god" in the first tweet, and it would appear that Obsidian Entertainment is confirming that they are working on Pillars of Eternity 2.

Too much time has passed since the company released both parts of The White March expansion for the original Pillars of Eternity so that another expansion would see pretty unlikely for a now 2-year-old game. I could very well be wrong about this, but considering that a major competitor in Divinity: Original Sin 2 is currently in the works, it would seem prudent for Obsidian Entertainment to move on their own CRPG.

Regardless, the future is looking mighty promising for CRPG fans.
