October’s Games with Gold announced for Xbox One and Xbox 360

October 2014's Xbox Games with Gold have been announced, and it looks like we're getting a total of three free games next month. In addition go Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Darksiders 2 for Xbox 360, Xbox One-owning Gold subscribers will get Chariot, a new indie platformer with a "colorful, spirited theme" for free.

Xbox One

Chariot (October 1-31)

Chariot is the newest ID@Xbox game from Canadian developers Frima. It's a couch co-op platformer in which players take on the role of the brave Princess or her faithful Fiancé as they "maneuver the departed king’s coffin-on-wheels through 25 levels set in five vibrant underground environments, with his majesty’s ghost giving them a piece of his mind every step of the way." Filled with emergent physics-based gameplay, Chariot promises hours of "exciting exploration, fast-paced ride sequences and mountains upon mountains of loot!"

Xbox 360

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (October 1-15)

Battlefield: Bad Company 2, released in 2010, is a direct sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company. It's primarily a first-person shooter, although it's a Battlefield game, so there's also an emphasis on vehicles. Between the ATVs, APCs, tanks, and helicopters introduce new multiplayer tactics. In addition to multiplayer the game also sees the return of the B Company squad in "a more mature" single-player campaign.

Darksiders 2 (October 16-31)

Closing out the month for Xbox 360 owners will be Darksiders 2. Continuing the series' emphasis on huge environments, exploration, and a "deep and rewarding" story, Darksiders 2 sees you play as Death, the most feared of the legendary Four Horsemen, on a quest to restore mankind and redeem his brother's name.

I'm a little disappointed there's no Halloween theme here, but it's hard to complain about Darksiders 2. The game scored a solid 8.5/10 on GameZone when it released. Revisiting Bad Company 2 might be a fun little romp as well. As for the Xbox One, well, it's only one free game this month, but at least it looks entertaining.

Remember, you still have until next Tuesday to download September's Games with Gold: Super Time Force on Xbox One, and Halo: Reach on Xbox 360.
