Over three years ago, Oculus launched their Kickstarter campaign to build the Oculus Rift headset. This Wednesday all their hard work will finally pay off. Tomorrow, every netizen that is interested in purchasing the virtual reality headset will be able to pre-order the Rift.
While we still don't have a price for the headset, it appears as though Kickstarter backers that pledged enough for a development kit won't need to worry about the price; they will be getting the finalized Oculus Rift headset for free.
Taking to the site where it all began, Kickstarter, the head honchos at Oculus said their thanks to backers and announced that backers who received the Dev Kit 1 (or DK1) will be getting the finalized form of the headset as form of thanks.
As a small token of our appreciation for your support, all Kickstarter backers who pledged for a Rift development kit will get a free Kickstarter Edition Oculus Rift! And like all Rift pre-order purchasers, you’ll receive a bundled copy of Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie.
To claim your free Rift, fill out the survey you’ll receive from Kickstarter before February 1, 2016 and provide a shipping address that is located in one of the 20 countries Rift is launching in. For those who don’t live in one of those 20 countries, we’re working on an alternative, and you can let us know your preference in the form.
While this is undoubtedly good news for early adopters, the bad news is that Oculus Touch controls have been delayed until later this year.
