Ouya expanding onto other devices this year

Ouya won't be just a game console anymore. Soon it will be a game platform.

"One thing you'll start to see is Ouya on other people's devices,” Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman told The A List Daily.

"We started with a $99 box, but we always wanted to create a console platform that can live on other people's devices," she said. "We just knew it was going to take us a little bit of time to get it ready. Now we think the software is good enough, it's ready to be embedded in other people's devices."

The Android microconsole launched at retail in June last year after it brought in $8.5 million on Kickstarter, but reception hasn't been as hot since. Uhrman revealed last July that only 27 percent of Ouya owners pay for its selection of nearly 700 games, all of which offer a free demo. Last month, Ouya released a 16GB console with a redesigned controller.

Uhrman says the company will be "jumping into the strategy with both feet this year.”
