OUYA headed to retail in June

OUYA, the ridiculously affordable Android-based game console, will be available for purchase from retailers in June 2013, the console maker confirmed today.

Unveiled all the way back in July 2012, the console was made possible by crowd-funding through Kickstarter. OUYA met its initial funding goal of $950,000 in just nine hours, and eventually came to a close with over $8 million pledged toward the open-source console.

At the time, pledging your support would basically equate to purchasing a console, but now it looks like you'll be able to buy it straight from retailers. The OUYA will be priced for $99.99 (console and controller included) and will be available at U.S. retailers Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Target. Although the OUYA is expected to hit stores in June, those who backed the project on Kickstarter are expected to receive their console earlier.
