Overwatch Game Director doesn’t sound terribly optimistic about a Nintendo Switch version

There's a little thing about the word "no" in the realms of game development that almost no one likes; saying it. The word is far more trouble than it's worth thanks to the ability to communicate directly with the folks making games, and the overall instability of the general public. Overwatch Game Director, Jeff Kaplan isn't giving into saying the word "no," but it seems like it's what he wants to say when talking about the possibility of a Nintendo Switch port.

As opposed to the optimistic tone of his Reddit AMA last month, he seemed a lot more pessimistic when talking to Express Online:

"I think the problem is, we've really targeted our min spec in a way that we would have to revisit performance and how to get on that platform.
And also, it's already challenging right now maintaining three platforms and patching simultaneously, which is something that we've finally been able to achieve."
The idea of having to "revisit performance" seems to be the optimal issue. One of Overwatch's requirements in being able to maintain a consistent 60 FPS, which is still something of a challenge for the console market as a whole. The question of how much visual fidelity needing to be sacrificed to hit that target would seem to be one issue, and with the knowledge that games like Zelda only being able to runĀ at 900p when docked and playing on a TV, raises, even more, questions.
That's not to say that it can't be done, as Kaplan continues saying, "Just because we're not on a platform right now, it doesn't mean we won't reconsider it in the future, so we stay aware of all these things."
IMO, a Switch version doesn't appear to be a top priority for Blizzard, and while it's always best never to close any door completely, there's no point in getting your hopes up.
