Overwatch’s in-game ‘Loot Box’ microtransactions priced; Offer cosmetic items only

Blizzard is launching their highly anticipated team-based first-person shooter, Overwatch, on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Last year, Blizzard confirmed that they would support the game with free heroes and maps through content updates after the game's release.

While players will be getting free content updates, Blizzard will offer in-game microtransactions for 'Loot Boxes' that can be earned in-game by raising your level.

Luckily, these items are cosmetic only – they won't affect gameplay, only how your character looks. The Loot Boxes will contain items like skins, emotes, victory poses, and more of varying rarity. They can be purchased for anywhere from $2 to $40, depending on how many boxes you want.

  • 2 Loot Boxes – $2 / £1.69 / €2
  • 5 Loot Boxes – $5 / £4 / €5
  • 11 Loot Boxes – $10 / £8 / €10
  • 24 Loot Boxes – $20 / £16 / €20
  • 50 Loot Boxes – $40 / £33 / €40

What is inside of the boxes is unknown at the time of purchase, but have been detailed to contain "at least one rare quality or better item,” and will offer credits instead of duplicate items.
