Legendary Pictures is giving us new insight into some of their more anticipated films as they’ve revealed the new titles for Pacific Rim 2, Godzilla 2, and the new Pokemon movie.
In a press release, the studio revealed the new titles as Pacific Rim: Uprising, Gozilla: King of Monsters, and the live-action Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu.
The Pacific Rim title is the most interesting as the sequel was previously called Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. The new movie will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil, Spartacus) starring John Boyega, Nick Tarabay, and Scott Eastwood, while Godzilla: King of Monsters is expected to be helmed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus). Detective Pickachu will be directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps).
I’m a little bummed that Guillermo del Toro won’t be directing Pacific Rim 2, but I still plan on checking out this slugfest of a monster film anyway. Godzilla: King of Monsters, meanwhile, has a lot to live up as the 2014 Gareth Edwards-helmed film was mostly received well.
As for Detective Pikachu, this seems like the biggest wildcard in the studio’s pocket as it hopes to ride the popularity, or lack thereof, of Pokemon Go.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently filming and slated to release February 23, 2018. Godzilla: King of Monsters and Detective Pikachu don’t have release dates yet.
