Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently filming in Australia and has been for a couple of months. Some new on-set images have been unearthed showing John Boyega (Finn – Star Wars: The Force Awakens) wearing a Jaeger pilot suit.
Uprising is a sequel to the 2013 sci-fi action film by Guillermo Del Toro Pacific Rim. The film had seen some development issues over the past few years, with Del Toro putting the directing controls into the hands of Steven S. DeKnight, the showrunner for Netflix's Daredevil while remaining as the producer of the film.
With Boyega's breakout role in Star Wars: Force Unleashed being wildly successful, Del Toro expressed his excitement to have him on the team for Pacific Rim: Uprising. "The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. 'The World saving the world' was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job."
The film is set to release in theaters on February 23, 2018.
