Paragon is being shut down by Epic Games

In the wake of Fortnite’s incredible success since the launch of its Battle Royale mode, it appears Epic Games has decided to cut their losses on their on-going MOBA, Paragon. The move isn’t entirely unprecedented, as it had been speculated that the game’s future was up in the air after a representative from the developer revealed on Reddit that progress on the game had slowed due to developers moving over to Fortnite.

Epic Games made a post on their official website yesterday, informing the world that Paragon would be going permanently offline on April 26th, 2018.

Here’s a snippet of the post.

It’s with heavy hearts we’ve decided to close down Paragon.

We truly appreciate everything you’ve put into Paragon. We received many passionate ideas for where to take the game; the outpouring of thoughtful suggestions is another testament to this incredible community.

After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.

That last part about player retention was something that the Epic Games rep pointed towards on Reddit, as the company has had problems with new players sticking with the game long term. MOBAs are a tight market to compete in, as the upper echelon is primarily set in stone with the likes of League of Legends and DotA 2.

On the plus side, anyone who invested money into Paragon will be eligible for a full refund directly from Epic Games. If you played the game on PC, you can head here to get your refund. If you played Paragon on PlayStation 4, head over here.
