Paramount partners with Amazon for Galaxy Quest TV series

Earlier this year, there were reports of Paramount Television putting together a television series for Galaxy Quest, the 1999 sci-fi comedy that satirized Star Trek and its fandom. At the time Paramount was rumored to be shopping the series, and now it appears they've found a partner in Amazon Studios.

According to EW, the show's development is still in the early stages, and it's not known if the original cast will return. It's also unclear if this is a sequel/continuation or a complete reboot.

Whichever route they go, Galaxy Quest seems a good fit for television: the cast of a cancelled cheesy-yet-endearing 1970s sci-fi space show (think Star Trek) is beamed aboard an alien spacecraft and mistaken for heroes. The cast's hoeric on-screen dramas are believed by the alien race to be historical documents of real-life adventures.

While it's unclear if the cast will return, the crew behind the camera is back. The film's co-writer Robert Gordon is penning the script and executive producing the pilot, while the film's director Dean Parisot is returning to also direct and executive produce the series.
