Paranormal Activity 3 Ups the Thrills and Chills With Creepy Children, More Action

Can you help him escape the lab? Alongside the traditional platform elements such as jumping on enemies heads, spikes and moving platforms are the gateway guns. The gateway guns allow you to place two gateways on the walls, floors and ceilings of the lab so that when you pass through one you emerge out of the other. As progress is made through the game different types of gateway gun are introduced with different effects. After the basic gun, you acquire a gun that creates two gateways of different sizes, passing through one way shrinks Ed to half his size and the other way makes Ed grow to twice his size. Then you find a gun where one gateway doesn't just connect to the others location but also its time, allowing Ed to travel back in time and encounter earlier versions of himself. Finally, the last gun manipulates gravity so passing through allows Ed to walk along walls and on ceilings.

When it was announced that the Paranormal Activity franchise would become a trilogy, the grumblings began.  When Paranormal Activity released, no one predicted the popularity that would ensue.  Of course, once Hollywood finds a gem, they milk it for everything it's got.  Enter Paranormal Activity 2.  Althought a sequel to the first movie, the movie was actually a prequel to the first film, showing Kristi's experience with the demon and how the demon ended up stalking Katie.

While Paranormal Activity 2 did pretty well in the box office, it left many fans disappointed.  As with most scary movie sequels, it didn't live up to the hype of the first film.  That's to be expected though.  It's hard to recreate the same eeriness because people know what to expect.  So you can understand why fans voiced their displeasure when Paranormal Activity 3 was announced.  Still, those same fans will probably check out PA3 simply because they are already hooked on the story.

Like the 2nd film, Paranormal Activity 3 is also going to be a prequel.  But this time, the film travels back to when Katie and Kristi were kids.  The newly released official trailer offers us a look into the lives of sisters Katie (the victim-turned-demon from PA1) and Kristi (the victim of PA2).  It looks like we'll see how they terrorized as kids by the demonic entity that would later return and shatter their adult lives.

From the trailer, you can see that Paranormal Activity 3 does borrow some of the same elements from the first two films.  It has the typical "demon pull" that grabs the person, the startling, quick violent actions, and the same terrifying possessed human standing over the bed in their sleep.  But despite these borrowed scare tactics from the first two films, Paranormal Activity will be scary for one main reason.  It features creepy, possessed children.  WHY are children so freaking creepy!?

There are a few parts in this trailer that gave me chills, particularly the little demon girl laughing and whispering to herself.  Tell me that didn't make the hairs on your neck stand up.  And unlike the other films, which are generally slow pace and build the anticipation of action, Paranormal Activity 3 looks to up the amount of mayhem caused by the demon.  In the first films, the demon usually only terrifies the victim when they are alone.  In the new trailer it doesn't look like this demon has any fears of making itself known in front of others.  Just ask the "supernatural expert" who got his head bashed in over and over on the table.  Did he not see that coming?

Paranormal Activity 3 may not be adding anything new to the trilogy, but it looks like it's taking it to the next level.  More chills, more thrills, and creepy f***in children.
