What started off as a fun tribute to "Back to the Future Day" — the day Marty McFly and Doc travel to in the future in Back to the Future: Part II — has turned into a PR nightmare for Pepsi.
Earlier this month, the company announced plans to release Pepsi Perfect, a new limited edition bottle designed to look exactly like the one in the film. Here's the catch, though, Pepsi created a limited run of only 6,500 of these collectible bottles, so when they released last night at midnight they sold out immediately. Fans who had stayed up hoping to snag one of these collectible bottles were disappointed when the clock struck midnight and they were already sold out without even giving them a chance.
The problem, it seems, stems from the fact that Pepsi never actually announced exactly what time the Pepsi Perfect bottles would go on sale or where fans could purchase them. That disappointment has turned into frustration as Pepsi's social media feeds are being flooded with fans upset at how fast the Pepsi Perfect bottles sold out.

Thanks, PEPSI, for posting to Facebook about When you are releasing the 6,500 bottles…I guess we need to go back to the Past and repost

it's official. @pepsi #PepsiPerfect is the most botched release in the history of collectibles. I along with many didn't even get a chance

I think all of us @pepsi and Back to the Future fans are waiting for a public apology and a relaunch of the #PepsiPerfect release.

My business spends $30k/yr with @pepsi. If they really blew the #PepsiPerfect launch, Coke gets my business tomorrow morning at 8am.

Adding salt to the wound, it seems some people lucky enough to snag one of these Pepsi Perfect bottles have taken to eBay to resell it for nearly 10 times the original price. Originally sold for just $20.15, prices on eBay range anywhere from $200 to $400 on the site.
Unlike all the people on eBay right now, I actually wanted a #PepsiPerfect bc I'm a die heart fan. Thanks for ruining every fans dream

I bet Pepsi wishes they had a DeLorean time machine right about now.
