Phil Spencer focused on ‘long-term growth’ with Sea of Thieves

Phil Spencer has been spending some time across the pond with the team at Rare to get a fresh look at the highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, Sea of Thieves. After a rather amusing playtest, Spencer sat down to take part in the latest Sea of Thieves Inn-Side Story video to talk about his thoughts on the game and its future. Both sides express a strong mutual desire for future growth, particularly regarding Sea of Thieves, and Spencer makes it clear that although Xbox has invested a lot in the project, that he always bets "on the passion of the team," to come through.

Here's the video:

It's still not entirely clear when Sea of Thieves will release, but Spencer said that "the payoff is going to delight a lot of people." There's no indication of whether or not it means that the game is coming this year, but it wouldn't be all that surprising if it gets pushed into 2018.

If you are interested in getting a chance to check out Sea of Thieves, it's definitely worth subscribing to the game's Insider Program, which gradually sends out waves of invites to the on-going Closed Alpha. There are weekly play sessions that take place every Wednesday, as well as an occasional Saturday play session, which serves as the platform for the introduction of new features. If you're already a part of the program, keep a close eye on your inbox. You never know.
