Phil Spencer says rich people want a lot of free Xbox stuff

With Xbox Series X and PS5 just a little over a week away, we’re seeing some influencers and press get theirs early. While a lot of these people use these for what is their job, some others have used their status to get free stuff. Fans have thrown a lot of criticism at this notion recently, especially after the pre-order debacle.

There has been a little less of that this generation, though. That may be in part thanks to Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer. On the Dropped Frames podcast, Spencer revealed there are a lot of rich people who want free stuff.

“I will say, the amount of free stuff rich people want is crazy. What I tell them when they ask me is “Hey, I sent your free Xbox to the Boys and Girls Club” and I’ll send them a link to the store where they can go buy one. Rich people want a lot of free stuff but I want the consoles to go where they should go.”

Spencer also noted that Snoop Dogg got an Xbox Series X fridge because he’s a loyal fan.

“Snoop’s been with us for a long time. People who follow us know Snoop has been with us for a long time.”

The Rock recently got a custom Xbox Series X but we suspect it also has to do with his Xbox roots. The former WWE wrestler helped debut the original Xbox at CES with Bill Gates in 2001, seen below.

On the flip side, Travis Scott also got some early access to the PlayStation 5. This is far different as he has entered a strategic partnership with Sony to help create unique content. The first project the duo have released is a brand new ad for the PS5.

Xbox Series X will release on November 10th.
