Phil Spencer: Xbox One, Windows PC cross-platform play ‘makes a lot of sense’

Cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows PC users “makes a lot of sense,” according to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer in an interview with AusGamers.

When asked about the similarities between both services, along with Xbox One’s new Cloud capabilities, Spencer said, “But I think what you’re talking about makes a lot of sense,” adding that the company has previously entertained the idea of cross-platform play through titles like Shadow Run and Skulls of the Shogun, the latter of which allowed players to battle friends on three different devices.

“This connected ecosystem across all the different devices is definitely where I think the future of gaming is going; you don’t have to do it as a developer, but you have the capability and I think a system like Xbox Live across all those screens where you know who someone is and who their friends are, what their Achievements are and their progression is really critical to that.”

Spencer, however, could not definitely say whether or not the feature will be implemented in the future, but it’s quite apparent that the company is at least interested in the idea, and the technology just may now be there to pull it off successfully.
