PlatinumGames announces giant monster title Project G.G.

Another type of Monster Hunting

Japanese cult game studio PlatinumGames has unveiled Project G.G., the developer’s newest game. The name is still a working title but thanks to the first teaser trailer, we are able to get a solid idea of what PG is cooking behind closed doors. Watch the trailer below!

PlatinumGames has long established itself as one of the most prestigious gaming studios in the world. For more than a decade, the talented folks over at the studio have been instrumental in the so-called Character Action genre. Games that somewhat follow the design philosophies of the Devil May Cry series. But by arguably outshining the original inventors of the genre with hallmark titles like Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Vanquish, PlatinumGames is now the King of the Hill.

But despite the exceptional quality, PG had to wait a long time until they also achieved the deserved commercial success. This has now led to the studio slowly working their way into self-publishing some of their past console-exclusives and also create entirely new IPs. The first of this new company strategy has now been shared with the public and it looks mighty promising.

Project G.G. is the working title of PG’s new project and the teaser trailer immediately sets the stage for a larger-than-life setting. Similar to Godzilla flicks. Project G.G. brings the catastrophic threat of giant monsters to our favorite interactive medium. While only being a CG teaser, the focus on massive destruction and skyscraper tall monsters make us all giddy for the future.

Not only are there monsters, but we also catch a glimpse at what looks like the game’s protagonist. What reminds us of campy Japanese Sentai shows – think Power Rangers – the person transforms himself into a towering mech, fighting a giant monster. It looks as exciting as it sounds. Project G.G. is still early in development, so don’t expect it to come out soon, but it’s already one title to look out for.
