In the second part of the dev diary series for Elite Dangerous’ upcoming Odyssey expansion, developer Frontier Developments gives up a great early look at the various new mechanics, locations, and gameplay opportunities players will face. You can watch it here!
With every new detail, every new footage we see of Odyssey, it becomes more and more clear that Elite Dangerous is quickly transforming into a true space sandbox that’s unlike anything on the market.
While Star Citizen is a very ambitious game that features similar mechanics in a similar setting, that game has been stuck in development for close to a decade with no light to see at the end of the tunnel. Even among its patient fans dissent has been building up at how Cloud Imperium Games has been handling the situation.
Comparatively, Frontier Developments has been garnering nothing but love for years ever since they released Elite Dangerous. A proper game on its own right that has continued to grow with big expansions.
Today, Odyssey gets more love with a new dev diary. Building on the solid foundation of Horizons, this second expansion will add much-needed content in the form of settlements, hubs, and ports all with NPC characters where you can accept various types of missions. The name of the game here is player choice. You can play as any kind of character and pursue wildly different carriers. From law-abiding citizen to lone wolf scavenger or even thief. You create your own path.
Odyssey is shaping up to become a must-have for Elite Dangerous players and will surely catch the attention of many a Star Citizen fan by offering lots that game’s features in a much more timely manner.
