PlayStation 3 Disney Infinity locking out players due to error in patch, temporary fix provided

PlayStation 3 Disney Infinity owners, pay attention.  According to a number of users on the PlayStation blog, PlayStation 3 versions of Disney Infinity are freezing thanks to an issue with the game’s “1.01” patch.

Below is a video from Kotaku reviewer Mike Fahey of the issue, which he reported starting to have Sunday after downloading the latest patch:

Despite the issue locking out users, Producer John Vignocchi offered an instant, temporary fix while the team works on a fix for the patch:

The Disney Infinity Facebook page affirmed the issue sometime after the tweet, echoing Vignocchi’s temporary fix:

We have learned that there is a network issue related to the 1.01 patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Disney Infinity. This is not a software-related issue, and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. Players with the PlayStation 3 version of Disney Infinity are still able to play single-player and multi-player co-op modes of the game by removing the patch and turning off their Playstation's network communications. These instructions can be found below. We are working diligently to resolve the issue and will update you as soon as we have more information.

To remove the patch:

1. Go to the Game menu of the XMB

2. Open the Game Data Utility folder (near the top of the list)

3. Highlight the Disney infinity icon with the characters background (this is the patch)

4. Press the triangle button on the wireless controller

5. Select the delete option

6. When asked “are you sure you want to continue?”, select YES

Patch is now deleted.

To turn off network communication

1. Go to the Settings menu of the XMB

2. Open the Network Settings menu (last on the list)

3. Select Internet Connection

4. Highlight “Disable” and press the X button on the wireless controller

Network is now disabled

It should be noted that when you delete the patch, you’ll have to forgo online multiplayer until the issue is resolved. And for those who are picking up Disney Infinity soon on PlayStation 3, do not download patch 1.01 or you too will have a similar fate.
