Today Disastercake announced that its Japanese-style role-playing game Soul Saga is coming to new platforms thanks to its midcampaign success on Kickstarter.
The Bellevue, Washington-based developer has raised more than $83,000 so far with 16 days to go on the campaign. It reached its target goal of $60,000 only yesterday.
The support will allow Disastercake — a one-man company by programmer, ex-Microsoft game designer, and technical artist Mike Gale — to bring Soul Saga to the PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PlayStation Vita.
"We did it! Such amazing progress in only a few days!" the developer wrote in an update. "It was just yesterday that we blew through both the game's initial funding AND the voice acting stretch goal! And now we're getting on the consoles! This is soooo exciting! I can't wait to take advantage of Wii U's intuitive controller, Vita's touch screen, and all of the cool features Playstation 4 will unveil to us!"
Soul Saga is "a love letter to JRPG classics from the Playstation era like Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, and Persona," according to the Kickstarter description. It's a story-driven RPG that features environmental puzzles and turn-based combat a la Final Fantasy 10 and Chrono Trigger.
Disastercake has a number of stretch goals lined up, including the addition of airships.
Well. This looks and sounds awesome.
The game will also be available on PC, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free. It's due out July 2014.
