PlayStation Mobile shutting down this Summer

PlayStation Mobile was created with intention of allowing users cross-platform play between the Vita and Android devices. While the concept sounded great, it will no longer exist by fall of this year.

This summer PlayStation Mobile will be terminated. PlayStation Japan has announced that on July 15th the distribution of the service will cease to be and on September 10th everything as we know it in PlayStation Mobile will end.

After September 10th, users will not be able to re-download previously purchased PlayStation Mobile content, but they will still be able to access the content. Accessing the content will not be automatic to anyone that purchased the content; there are specific steps a user has to go through in order to retain access to content.

Luckily, PlayStation Japan outlined the steps:

  • For PS Vita users: You will need to complete the device activation process by performing the steps below between March 10, 2015, and September 10, 2015:
  • Go to [Settings] > [PSN℠] > [System Activation] > [PlayStation Mobile] > [Activate] > [OK].
  • For PlayStation®Certified device users: You will need to open up the PSM app and launch any purchased PSM content between April 10, 2015 and September 10, 2015*3 to complete the content authentication process.
  • Please ensure that you have downloaded all of the games that you want to keep. After September 10, 2015, you will not be able to re-download your purchased content.
  • Devices that are not authenticated prior to September 10, 2015 will be unable to access previously purchased PSM content after that date.
