Rickeybot, a livestreamer, was robbed in the middle of a Pokemon GO livestream then Twitch suspended his account.
Pokemon GO was recently updated with a 'Buddy System' that allowed players to select a Pokemon to follow them around and collect in-game candies. The update brought new interest back to Pokemon GO, which meant plenty of people wandering around at various hours of the day with their phones out in front of them.
Rickeybot was livestreaming Pokemon GO last night near Central Park in New York City when he was assaulted and robbed, all while his camera was capturing the stream. The camera captured the robbers face as he bent down and told Rickeybot to remove all of the electronics he had on him.
Rickeybot told the police what happened then rushed off to the hospital to get treatment for his jaw, which appears to be a "mess." Following the event, Twitch suspended Rickeybot's account for 24-hours. Hopefully the ban was placed to protect Rickeybot's account.
Our thoughts go out to Rickeybot and hope he not only recovers from his injuries soon but that his assailant gets caught by police.
A note to anyone who goes out and plays mobile games at night, please don't go alone and stay in well lit, highly trafficked areas.
