If you’ve been bitten by that nostalgic Pokémon bug or are capturing a Eevee for the very first time, you have to recognize that everything is all about dat Pokémon right now. 3DS’ are appearing all around the office or being torn off the shelves as people are buying the console for the sole reason to 'catch them all.'
Since October 12th, only two days ago, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y have sold over 4 million copies. That’s a whooooole lot of Pokémon sales. These sales encompass the world including purchases across Japan, Europe, and the Americas. As the very first global launch in franchise history, it’s no surprise that these sales blew all previous records out of the water. How much more? Well it’s 70% than Pokémon Black and Pokémon White.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said, “The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers are eager to experience the franchise for themselves.”
Just how well has the Pokémon franchise sold? Let’s look at the numbers:
Title | Platform | Total Global Sales** |
Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl | Nintendo DS | 17.63 Million |
Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire | Game Boy Advance | 16.22 Million |
Pokémon Black and Pokémon White | Nintendo DS | 15.42 Million |
Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver | Nintendo DS | 12.67 Million |
Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen | Game Boy Advance | 12 Million |
The only real question left is, ‘do you buy X or Y?’
