Valve is gearing up to make a major announcement that could change the living gaming and entertainment landscape. Currently dominated by the big three — Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo — Valve is looking to make a splash with its own living system, believed to be the Steam Box. Earlier this week at Linuxcon, Valve CEO and founder Gabe Newell hinted of upcoming announcements regarding a Linux-based console, built on the open-source operating environment.
Today, there's a teaser site that hints a new announcement could be coming on Monday morning. "The Steam Universe is Expanding in 2014," the site's header reads. While Steam Big Picture mode does offer you the ability the play your Steam library of games on the big screen television, it's believed the Steam Box will bring all of the functionality of Windows or Linux operating systems to the living room.
“Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads," the site teases. "This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam."
The countdown indicates an announcement will be made Monday morning. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any news.
