Princess Zelda returns to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

Princess Zelda, for the third consecutive game, will be appearing in the new Super Smash Bros. fighter for Nintendo Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo revealed her return as a playable character in the new game on Christmas in celebration of the launch of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds in Japan.

In the announcement, game director Masahiro Sakurai noted that "It's great to see so many female characters this time around."

For Zelda, this is her third Super Smash game. She first appeared in the Gamecube's Super Smash Bros. Melee and returned in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii. Set to return whenever the new game releases — still unknown — Nintendo has posted a bunch of screenshots of Zelda in action.

Zelda's inclusion means the roster for Super Smash Bros. is now at 20 which seems like a good amount to stick to. Other female characters include Princess Peach, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, and the recently announced Rosalina & Luma. Enjoy the screenshots of Zelda above and head over to the Smash Bros. blog for all of the new images.

What do you think of Zelda's return to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS?
