Project Eternity funded with $4M

Project Eternity has completed funding with an all-time high of nearly $4 million on Kickstarter.

Fallout: New Vegas maker Obsidian Entertainment now has a generous budget to produce its ambitious independent venture, which is inspired by former Black Isle-developed/published games like Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale. It's not on the financial level of, say, the last Elder Scrolls game, however, so Obsidian still has to watch its development costs and leverage them appropriately.

The game will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux. It features six races and 11 classes, deep medieval fantasy lore, crafting and enchanting, mod support, party-based/"real-time with pause" combat, a mega-dungeon called The Endless Paths (its size dependent on the number of backers and Obsidian Facebook "likes"), two expansive cities, and more.

Obsidian is aiming for a spring 2014 release on GOG.com and Steam, with a post-release expansion already planned for six months afterward. Sales of the game would presumably fund the add-on.

A Wiki for the game is already up and running.
