Project Scorpio developer kit out in the wild, road map details emerge

Microsoft's upcoming Xbox console, codenamed Project Scorpio, has been hailed as extremely powerful by retailers and developers alike, but it hasn't even reached its final form.

It appears as though Project Scorpio has been in the hands of some developers and while developers report that it hasn't been performing at the planned system launch, it will be receiving an update that will bring the console up to par with its built-in goods.

According to sources close to Windows Central, an Xbox Developer Kit update will be released in June which will bring Scorpio's graphics up to its advertised 4K-power. Once the console hits full power, it will offer Xbox gamers with "change-resilient" gaming, which means the console will naturally optimize games with dynamic scaling technology, like Halo 5, Battlefield 1, and Tom Clancy's The Division. The dynamic scaling for Project Scorpio will be available all the way to 4K.

Luckily, the most recent update to the Project Scorpio Xbox Developer Kit allows for developers to "designate chunks of code to be deployed only when Project Scorpio is detected." A feature that should help keep file sizes down and restrict VR on a standard Xbox console.

With the Project Scorpio Xbox Developer Kit being available to developers, they will be submitting their games for Project Scorpio certification in June, when the June update is available. This could very well mean that we will see reports of developer interactions with the Project Scorpio Xbox Developer Kit, though, it should be noted that any reports of the console's ability prior to the June update are without the update that grants the console extra power.
