PS4 and PS3 to get Dish’s Hopper functionality

Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles will soon offer gamers Hopper functionality thanks to a new Dish app that makes use of Virtual Joey software. For those unfamiliar, the Hopper is a "whole-home HD DVR" from Dish "that gives you the power to pause, rewind and record live TV in any room." Additionally, the Hopper allows you to access your DVR from your computer, smartphone, or tablet as well.

Announced in time for the CES 2014, but not actually coming until later this year, PlayStation owners will be able to access their recorded shows directly from their console without having to switch devices or inputs. Additionally, the software will allow for control through the DualShock 4 controller or Dish remote. Now all that's left to do is bring this sort of functionality over to the Vita also.

The Dish app is expected to arrive on PS4 and PS3 in spring 2014.
