PS4 not launching in Japan until February 2014

Sony finally announced when the PlayStation 4 will be available in Japan, and unfortunately those on the other side of the world will have to wait until 2014. The PS4 won't be launching in its native country until February 22, 2014, several months after the system releases in the United States and Europe. The system will be available in those markets on November 15 and November 29, respectively.

Sony cited "the availability of content" as the reason for such a long wait. The company wants to ensure there are plenty of games for the Japanese market before releasing the PS4. Basically, games designed for western audiences are just further along.

To make it up for the wait, Sony will also offer a "First Limited Pack" that will include a digital download code for Knack and a one-year extended warranty for free.

While Japan will have to wait until February 2014 for the PS4, it's worth nothing that Microsoft has yet to announce when their own Xbox One will be available in the country. Currently, the Xbox One will be releasing on November 22 in North America and the UK, as well as 11 other territories, none of which are Japan. Microsoft insists it is committed to the Japanese market, but admitted the Xbox One needs some tweaking before its release over there.
