Publisher Devolver Digital revealed The Talos Principle during E3 2014, but we’re only just now learning of the talent developer Croteam, the makers of Serious Sam, have brought to the puzzler.
Writers Tom Jubert, best known for his work on FTL, The Swapper, Penumbra and Driver: San Francisco, and Jonas Kyratzes, who wrote for The Book of Living Magic and The Sea Will Claim Everything, are heading Talos’ narrative, best called eclectic sci-fi.
Jubert describes the game as “a bit atmospheric, a bit sci-fi, and a proper challenge if you’re looking for one,” promising engaging narrative for anyone willing to dig through it as well as difficult puzzles for those just looking to bend their brain in his PlayStation Blog post.
“In the game you inhabit a robot body in a digital recreation of the ancient world, and explore at the behest of an omnipresent voice in the sky. We’re keeping our cards close to our chest on this one, but you could say Philip K. Dick’s oeuvre is a close match for our general motif,” he added.
The Talos Principle will release for PS4 and PC later this year.
