PS4’s launch leads to significant rise in Vita sales

Apparently, the PlayStation 4 is leading to an increase in sales for Sony's PlayStation Vita handheld.

According to the latest issue of MCV, PlayStation Vita sales rose by 68 percent during the PS4's launch week. They rose again by 65 percent the week after. Though it's unknown exactly how many units that translates too, any increase is a positive sign for the Vita, which prior to the PS4's launch was struggling to move units.

Sony attributes the Vita's newfound success to the launch of the PS4, which can use the handheld as a second screen device. Using Remote Play, PS Vita owners can stream PlayStation 4 gameplay from their console to their handheld, freeing up their television for other use.

"PS Vita sales wise we are continuing to see strong week-on-week growth since our latest campaign kicked in," said senior product manager Ben Law. "The new TV advert went live this week and we've already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what [a] great proposition PS Vita is, either as a standalone device or as the perfect companion to PS4."

It also helps that Sony introduced a much-needed price cut for the Vita. Earlier this year, Sony dropped the price of its handheld to $199 in North America and €199 in Europe. For PS4  gamers who don't yet own a Vita, do you plan on getting one soon?
