Having trouble finding a PlayStation 4? It won't get easier as Sony expects the PS4 will be in short supply until around April.
"I can’t work it out precisely. But based on what I’ve seen so far, I think it is going to be tricky until around about April," PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara told MCV. "You might get a fortnight or a week here or there where it is more available, but we should be back to free supply by about April."
Though Gara is likely reporting on UK stock, it can be assumed that shortages will also be experienced her in the United States. Despite releasing back in November, the PlayStation 4 remains in high demand, with many retailers struggling to keep up. And I can guarantee with the PS4's launch in Japan today, new PS4 arrivals won't be getting any quicker.
“[April's] our best guess," Gara added. "It might be a little earlier than that, or it might be a little later. But we’ll get there.”
Sony certainly isn't complaining abou tthe PS4's success, though.
“PS4 pre-orders were obviously a strong indicator of what was going to happen, but they were so big that we were pinching ourselves and wondering if people were pre-ordering in more than one place, and if some of these pre-orders were real," Gara said. “We were getting numbers we never imagined, let alone seen before. But it proved to be real."
Earlier this week, Sony revealed that over 5.3 million PlaySTation 4 consoles have been sold worldwide since launch. Remember, that doesn't include Japan, the PS4's home market. The console launched there today and is sure to rack up millions more in sales. In January, Sony's President of Worldwide Shuhei Yoshida urged gamers to "be patient" as they attempt to satisfy demand.
