Earlier this week, Sony released PS4 'Masamune' Update 2.0. With all of the new features it brought also came a name change to the system's Standby Mode, which is now called "Rest Mode."
Since the update's release, a number of users and reports claim that there is a bug which prevents the PS4 from powering back on after it enters this Rest Mode. Complaints have been posted to Sony's official PlayStation community forums and even Kotaku has claimed to have experienced the bug.
Last night, I put my PS4 in Rest Mode, and when I woke up this morning, the console wouldn't turn on—I had to manually reset it, potentially risking damaging the system and its files. Same thing seems to be happening to a lot of other people, too.
At this point, the problem doesn't seem to be too widespread. We've been putting our PS4 into Rest Mode all week and haven't encountered any problems. Redditors have suggested potential fixes for those who are having issues, but I'd be more comfortable with something official from Sony who has already acknowledged the problem and promised their engineers are working to fix the "issues."
For Sony, this is just the latest in a line of issues regarding the update which also brought down PSN for a lengthy period. Whatever problems exist, though, it doesn't appear to be hurting PS4 sales.
