After a brief return to service, PlayStation Network seems to be down again.
Earlier today, Sony provided PlayStation owners with a brief update, confirming that PSN services were "gradually" coming back online for PS4, PS3, and Vita. However, a recent update acknowledges that some users are still experiencing sign-in issues on PS4 and PS3.
Sony says engineers are currently investigating the cause and currently lists PSN as "offline."
It's been a rough couple of days for PlayStation and PSN which has suffered from ongoing distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks believed to be caused by Lizard Squad since Christmas. Services have been disrupted for days now, preventing many from playing their games online. Destiny, Grand Theft Auto V, and Call of Duty are just a few of the games that rely on online networks like PSN to operate fully.
The notorious DDoS group has been a pain for the entire gaming industry for months now, but recently stepped up their attacks this month. On Christmas, the group also took down Xbox LIVE, but it appears now that they are solely focused on PlayStation. Xbox LIVE's service status shows it as up and running.
