The developers of Flight Control and Real Racing, Firemint, have acquired Puzzle Quest’s Infinite Interactive. The move puts the two independent Australian studios into a mutually beneficial relationship, allowing Firemint to expand their catalog while giving Infinite a channel for independent publishing.
Infinite Interactive continues work on a game already in progress, with founder Steve Fawkner moving into a product management position at Firemint, while continuing work with Infinite.
The studio founders have known each other for years, and both studios are located in Melbourne, so the acquisition makes a lot of sense. That said, with two very successful independent developers coming together, it marks yet another example of indie development carving out a bigger piece of the game industry pie.
